Exterior Weatherproofing — Keynsham
Complete exterior weatherproofing of a 1930s semi on Bath Road, including render repair, timber restoration, and breathable masonry coating.
Project Details
A 1930s semi-detached house on Bath Road in Keynsham had suffered through two consecutive wet Somerset winters. The north-facing gable was streaked with green algae, the front render was cracked and hollow, and the timber fascia boards were beginning to rot. The front door varnish had greyed and peeled.
The first challenge was access. Bath Road is busy and the property has no off-street parking, so we scheduled scaffold delivery for early morning and kept materials in our van. The north gable had chronic damp due to a blocked gully on the sloping site. We stripped the render back to the blockwork, applied a breathable waterproofing slurry, and re-rendered with a sand-and-cement mix before two coats of Sandtex Ultra Smooth Masonry Paint.
All timber — fascia boards, soffits, and the front door — was repaired with Repair Care Dry-Flex where rot had set in, then primed and finished with Zinsser AllCoat Exterior in a deep slate grey. We treated the algae with a fungicidal wash and added an anti-mould additive to the masonry paint. The property now sheds water properly and looks crisp from the pavement.
"After two Somerset winters, the north side of our house was a mess. They diagnosed the damp issue properly, stripped it back to sound render, and the finish still looks fresh six months later."Richard and Anne Collins — Homeowners, Keynsham
